Theme channels

TF1 also operates theme channels that have become key components of the satellite, broadband, DTT and cable environment in France.

  • A wholly-owned subsidiary of TF1, Eurosport remains the leading multimedia sports platform in Europe with Eurosport, Eurosport 2, Eurosport.com, Eurosportnews, Eurosport Mobile and, since May 2008, Eurosport HD.
     
  • Received by 118.1 million households with pay and free service.
     
  • Broadcast in 20 languages in 59 countries.
     
  • More than 5.2 million subscribers at 31 December 2009 with excellent economic knock-on effects.
     
  • Eurosport HD, launched in May 2008, has proved extremely successful.

  • At end-December 2009, TMC had a 2.9% audience share of individuals aged four and over, up from 2.3% one year earlier. Average annual audience share was 2.6%, confirming TMC’s place as the seventh-ranked French TV channel, a position held since February 2008.
     
  • On 28 May 2009, TF1 and Claude Berda, majority shareholder of AB Group, began exclusive negotiations on TF1’s acquisition of 100% of NT1 and the 40% of NTC held by AB Group1. The transaction would increase TF1’s stake to 80%.
     
  • On 26 January, the Competition Authority authorised TF1’s takeover of TMC and NT1 subject to “commitments on conduct aimed at remedying competition problems”.

  • A wholly-owned TF1 subsidiary founded in 1994, LCI is France's top 24-hour news channel.
     
  • At end-December 2009, more than 7.2 million households were subscribed to LCI.

  • TV Breizh, launched in August 2000, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of TF1.
     
  • Received by 5.6 million subscribers at end-June 2009.

  • TF6, a 50-50 joint venture between TF1 and M6, was received by 5.8 subscriber households at 31 December 2009.
     
  • Average yearly audience share of 1.0% with 15-34 year-old target receiving the channel.
