CulturalBouygues, sponsor of Hôtel de la Marine
Bouygues is sponsoring and carrying out work to restore the Hôtel de la Marine, a listed building, under a skill sponsorship agreement signed with the French Ministries of Defence and Culture on 26 April 2006. Restoration work covers the peristyle, the gilded hall and two reception rooms.
Its cost of €6.2 million (subsequent to the decision to restore the former Tapestry Gallery, subsequently named the Warports Gallery, the agreed sum was raised to €7.2 million) makes it the most generous skills sponsorship in Paris. It combines restoration of architectural elements and interior décor. Bouygues is not only financing the cost of restoring the peristyle and the halls but is also overseeing the work.
The Bouygues group has previously been involved in safeguarding the country's historical heritage: in the 1980s, for example, it reproduced the famous Marly Horses statues standing in Place de la Concorde so that the originals could be preserved in the Louvre Museum. Even construction of the Grand Arch of La Défense is an aspect of historical heritage since the building commemorates the bicentenary of the French Revolution and closes the historical line of sight extending from the Tuileries Gardens near the Louvre, through the Arc de Triomphe, to La Défense.
